The application process for admission to the different graduate programs at Harvard University must be completed directly by the student with the university.
Applications to obtain funding from the Foundation may only be submitted after the student has been admitted to a full-time graduate program (master’s, doctorate, or PhD) at Harvard University.
1. The Foundation offers financial support based on the student’s financial need, and the amount is determined by the Foundation’s scholarship committee. Our support is granted annually, ranges between $10,000 and $100,000 USD, and may be used for tuition or living expenses.
2. If financial support is approved in the form of a loan, the student and a guarantor must sign a contract.
1. Funds granted by the Foundation are always in U.S. dollars and partially cover the annual cost of the program for the student only (single).
2. If financial support is approved in the form of a loan, the student and their guarantor must sign a contract and a promissory note.
For funding provided in the form of a loan, the repayment terms work as follows:
1. A one-year grace period is granted starting from the date of graduation.
2. Monthly payments must be made over a period of five or seven years, depending on the program, beginning at the end of the grace period.
3. Interest accrues at a fixed annual rate of 5% starting from the date the loan is disbursed.
4. Payments must be made in U.S. dollars or in Mexican pesos at the exchange rate on the date of payment.
FMH will report to the Mexican Credit Bureau any student with outstanding payments.
I. Policy on Returning to Mexico
Scholarships granted by the Foundation are subject to the following conditions:
II. Policy on Converting a Loan into a Scholarship for Full-Time Employment at an Academic or Research Institution in Mexico
The student may request that FMH consider converting their loan into a scholarship if they obtain full-time employment at an academic or research institution in Mexico. The employment must be dedicated to teaching or research at that institution for three consecutive years after graduating from Harvard.
To be considered for this conversion, the student must submit the following documentation to the Foundation at the start of such employment:
The Foundation will verify all documentation and make the final decision. If the conversion is approved, the student must submit the above documentation (items 1–4) annually for three consecutive years to verify continued employment. Loan payments will be suspended during these three years. At the end of this period, the loan will be canceled.
If the conversion is not approved, or if the employment conditions under which it was approved are not maintained, the student must immediately resume loan payments.
The Foundation reserves the right to approve or deny the conversion.
III. Policy for LL.M. / S.J.D.
Students who received Foundation support in the form of a loan to pursue the LL.M. program may request conversion of the loan into a scholarship when all of the following conditions are met:
The student must return to reside and work in Mexico for two consecutive years after completing the S.J.D., following a one-year grace period during which they may reside abroad.
The conversion of the loan into a scholarship will be subject to the formalization of a new contract between the student and the Foundation and may only take place once compliance with all the above conditions has been verified.
The Fundacion will verify all information provided and make a final decision. All documents should be submitted for consideration, any incomplete requests will not be considered and student will have to commence payment of the corresponding loan.
